Behind the lens
Creative nurses are leading the next wave of well-being innovation and The Nursing Lens is where their stories live.
We’re a nurse-led media platform built to tackle two critical challenges:
• The emotional burnout plaguing nurses across every care setting
• The widening gap in public health literacy
The Nursing Lens empowers nurses, caregivers, retired RNs, and even nurses who have lost their licenses to share their stories using their own nursing lens.
Not sure what we mean by your nursing lens? If you’ve ever worked as a nurse, or cared for a loved one or friend, you already have one. It’s the perspective shaped by your experiences, instincts, and the way you see the world through both a clinical and compassionate eye. In this writing space, it’s your superpower.
You’ve lived through the pandemic. You’ve worked understaffed, pulled long shifts, stretched limited resources. You’ve missed your kids’ games and school ceremonies. These sacrifices didn’t just cost you- they shaped you. And they gave you a voice no one else has.
That’s your nursing lens.
Whether it’s blog posts, poetry, health articles, photography, podcasts, or video, The Nursing Lens is a space where real experiences are processed, hard-won wisdom is shared, and the culture of nursing is moved forward through peer support and a renewed focus on well-being.
This isn’t just content. It’s nurse-powered media with purpose.
What We Do
We offer a platform where all nurses can write and publish their stories, build their portfolios, and amplify real-life narratives from the front lines of care. Contributing writers receive a clinical perspective review of their submitted works by our editors and review team, (as-needed) coaching, editing, and peer support to transform personal insight into impactful media.
How We Do It
Each volunteer writer is introduced to the American Nurses Foundation’s (ANF) Nurse Well-Being Initiative and its Stress First Aid (SFA) framework- a peer support model designed to help nurses recognize and manage stress before it leads to burnout.
Our editorial process invites contributors to reflect not only on their clinical experiences, but also on their emotional journeys whenever applicable in their writings. Writers are encouraged to use their unique nursing lens to craft the kind of health stories they wish existed- anecdotal, honest, and or deeply relatable to help other nurses feel seen, supported, and understood.
Why It Matters
Nurses are eyewitnesses, educators, and natural storytellers. But too often, their voices are overlooked. The Nursing Lens exists to fix that by helping nurses find power in their stories, reduce stigma around emotional strain, and contribute to public health literacy through firsthand accounts.
The Nursing Lens.
